Preparing Your Farm Preschool Worksheets and Activities

Most pages need only a few familiar supplies: pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue. Dot markers are optional for the alphabet-matching and beginning-sound dot pages.

Print the worksheets you plan to use, rather than preparing the entire packet at once. For the booklets, cut apart the pages, arrange them in order, and staple along the marked edge.

If cutting is still challenging, prepare the small pieces ahead of time so your learner can concentrate on matching or sorting. You can return to the same activity later with cutting included.

Farm Prewriting and Fine Motor Practice

The prewriting pages invite children to help farm animals reach the barn by tracing different paths. Curves, zigzags, waves, and other lines give them opportunities to practice controlled pencil movements.

Begin by following a path with a finger. Then try it with a crayon or pencil, moving slowly from the animal toward the barn.

You can offer one or two paths at a time and return to the remaining paths during another short practice session.

Alphabet Matching and Missing Letters

The apple alphabet pages give children practice matching uppercase and lowercase letters. Name the uppercase letter together, then look through the apples to find its lowercase partner.

The missing-letter worksheets offer another way to explore the alphabet. Children cut and paste letters into the empty spaces to complete uppercase or lowercase sequences. Keep an alphabet strip nearby for learners who need a reference.

For letter formation practice, try the ABCs on the Farm booklet. Children trace uppercase and lowercase letters, trace vocabulary words, and color the pictures. Work on a few familiar letters first, then add more as they are introduced.

Beginning Sounds and Picture Sorting

The letter-sound sorting pages ask children to decide whether each picture belongs with the focus letter. For the Bb page, for example, they sort pictures according to whether their names begin with /b/.

Name all the pictures together before sorting. This makes the vocabulary clear and gives children a chance to listen carefully to each word.

Let them arrange the pieces before gluing so they can check their choices and make changes.

The packet also includes mixed beginning-sound pages, where children identify the letter that represents a picture’s first sound. The X sorting page focuses on ending sounds.

Rhyming, Syllables, and Word Families

Farm syllable activities encourage children to say picture names and count their spoken parts. Try clapping or tapping each syllable before marking an answer.

The rhyming worksheets use picture pairs such as cat and hat or pig and wig. Say both words aloud and listen to how their endings sound.

For learners beginning to read simple words, the hen-and-coop activity introduces sorting by word family. The packet includes -an, -en, -ig, and -op families.

On the -an and -en page, children sort words such as can, fan, pan, pen, men, and den. Help them sound out and blend each word, then notice the shared spelling pattern.

Sight Words and Simple Sentences

The apple sight-word pages provide matching practice with words such as and, see, can, the, and me. Choose words you have already introduced and read them together as children find the matches.

There are also activities for counting words in sentences and matching sentences to pictures. The word-counting pages include versions with and without supporting counting dots.

These pages offer a useful next step for learners who are ready to work with words and short sentences.

Counting, Number Recognition, and Number Order

The Counting on the Farm booklet brings together number tracing, number identification, and counting quantities from 1 to 10.

On the number 2 page, children trace the numeral, find the 2s, and color two wagons. You can introduce the page by placing two counters on the table and counting them together.

Other counting activities include selecting the number that matches a group, counting and writing totals, matching numerals to apple ten frames, and sorting groups of farm animals by quantity.

For number-order practice, children can assemble numbered picture strips, fill missing spaces in number sequences, and follow the chicken-to-coop number maze from 1 to 25.

Choose a number range your learners know, then introduce a new challenge when they are ready.

Picture Addition and Making 10

The picture-addition pages give learners a visual way to combine two groups. Encourage them to count each group first, then count how many there are altogether.

The making-10 worksheets use apple ten frames to explore how many more are needed to fill the frame. Children complete the addition equation to match.

Before writing an answer, try placing a counter over each empty space. Count the counters and connect that quantity to the missing number in the equation.

These activities are useful for learners who are ready to move beyond counting individual groups.

Counting, Graphing, and Comparing

The farm graphing pages invite children to count each type of picture and record the totals on a graph.

Once the graph is complete, keep the conversation going: Which column is tallest? Which has the fewest? Do any columns have the same number?

The comparing-groups worksheets offer further practice deciding which group has more. Encourage learners to explain their choice by counting or matching the pictures one to one.

Measurement, Sorting, Patterns, and Position

The nonstandard measurement pages use printable counting cubes to measure picture heights. Model how to line the units up from the same starting point, without gaps or overlaps.

Children then count the units and record the measurement.

There are also pages for comparing weight, sorting animals and plants, and classifying pictures by shape. Before gluing the sorting pieces, ask learners to explain why each picture belongs in its chosen group.

The pattern worksheets include AB, ABB, and ABC patterns. Begin with AB patterns and say the repeating sequence aloud before choosing the next picture.

Positional-word activities explore under, on, behind, and in front. Bring out a toy animal and a small box to act out each position before completing the worksheet.

Color-by-number and “What Is Different?” pages provide additional opportunities to follow directions and notice visual details.

Farm Vocabulary Booklets and Early Reading

Farm Build-a-Word Booklet

The Farm Build-a-Word booklet combines farm vocabulary, tracing, coloring, and letter matching.

On the pig page, children trace the word and arrange the letters p, i, and g to build it. Read the word together, look at the letter order, and check the tiles before gluing.

Use each page to start a short conversation about the picture. For learners who know the relevant letter-sound relationships, you can also practice sounding out suitable words.

Down on the Farm Reader and Comprehension

The Down on the Farm reader introduces Farmer Bob and life on the farm. It includes color and black-and-white versions, with comprehension pages both with and without picture support.

Read the booklet together, supplying unfamiliar words as needed. Afterward, talk about what happened and return to the relevant pages to check answers.

Learners can answer questions orally before completing the comprehension page. Choose the picture-supported version when visual choices help them communicate their understanding.

The assembled booklet can then go into a reading basket or home for another shared reading.

Choosing Farm Preschool Worksheets and Activities for Your Learners

You can use different pages from the packet with different learners while keeping the same farm theme.

For a simple starting point, choose:

  • One familiar activity, such as alphabet matching or counting.
  • One activity to introduce together, such as a picture sort or graph.
  • One playful extension, such as acting out positional words with toy animals.

For younger learners, begin with tracing, matching, sorting, and small counting quantities. Introduce word families, sentence activities, and addition when those skills fit your teaching goals.

Keep sessions short and leave time to talk about the pictures, check answers, and enjoy the activity. A carefully chosen page can give you plenty to explore together.
