Hi all! I have put together some fun and engaging worksheets and flip books to promote learning of beginning sounds and build vocabulary. This workbook is great for pre-school, Kindergarten (Prep) aged children and even your Grade 1 kiddos will love it.
This packet contains 26 alphabet beginning sounds flip books in both black and white and color versions. Each flip book is accompanied by 2 corresponding worksheets for differentiation purposes.
The first worksheet requires the children to use their flip book to label the pictures. The second worksheet asks the children to trace the uppercase and lowercase versions of the letter and write 4 sentences using 4 words of their choice from their flipbook.
The great thing about these cute little flip books is that they can be read over and over and over again. And we love that! Why do we love that? Well, we know that repetition leads to growth in fundamental skills and helps strengthen the connections in the brain for optimal learning.
Not only is it a great way to learn the alphabet, but it is a great way to start connecting pictures with words and this will help little ones kick-start their reading skills. As your kiddos color the images for their flipbook, encourage them to identify the letter that they will be focusing on by saying it out loud. If they are beginner learners and can not yet read at all, ask them to say the name of the pictures and sound out the beginning sound.
You could absolutely split this activity over multiple days or weeks. Monday your kiddos color, cut and paste to create the picture books with a brief explanation of the beginning letter sound. Get your kiddos to think of some other things you see around that begin with that letter sound too. Tuesday they can go through the flip books, reading them and focusing on the beginning sounds. Wednesday kiddos could use the flipbooks to do the labelling worksheet and continue practicing their reading. Thursday you could use the flip book to do the second worksheet of tracing and sentence writing. Of course, it is completely up to you when and how you will use this workbook; this is just a suggestion.
I am sure this flip book work pack will bring much learning and joy to your children!
Happy teaching 🙂
