I’ll be honest. I have a soft spot for colorful learning activities, and this Editable Gumball Sight Word Center was hard to resist! There is a bit of cutting involved, but once the pieces are prepared, you can bring them out again for word, letter, name, and number matching.

Ways to Play with the Editable Gumball Sight Word Center
The idea is simple. Children choose a gumball card, read the word, and look for its match on their machine. Each matching card adds another colorful gumball until the machine is full!
You can start with words your children have already learned and change them as you introduce more. I’ve included an “I can” card to remind children what to do, along with a recording page for writing the words they match. There’s also a label to help keep everything together when it’s time to pack away.
But you don’t have to stop at sight words.
Try adding uppercase letters to the machine and lowercase letters to the cards. Or use the letters in a child’s name for a more personal matching activity. You can name each letter together as they find its place.
The gumball machines work for number practice too. Children can match identical numerals or pair numbers with their number words. You can even put one word in each space to create short sentences, then read them together once the cards are in place.
That’s what I like about an editable activity. You can keep the familiar matching routine and change what your children are practicing.
Give the Gumballs Somewhere New to Hide
For a different setup, tuck the laminated cards into a sensory bin. Children can search through the rice, pull out a gumball, and read it before finding its match.
A small whiteboard or a handful of magnetic letters gives you another easy extension. After matching a word, children can write it or build it with letters.

You could also set out two machines and a shared pile of cards for partner play. Taking turns choosing and reading the gumballs makes this a lovely little activity for working together.
